KABUL—In a significant movement, more than 30,000 Afghan refugees have returned to Afghanistan from Pakistan, Iran, and Türkiye within the past week, as reported by an official from the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Abdul Mutalib Haqqani, a spokesperson for the ministry, detailed the origins of these returnees during a briefing with local media outlet TOLOnews. Approximately 2,500 of these refugees returned from Pakistan, around 190 from Türkiye, and the majority from Iran. This latest return is part of a broader trend, with the ministry reporting that a total of 1.78 million Afghan refugees have repatriated over the past year.
The Afghan caretaker government has been actively encouraging its citizens abroad to return, emphasizing the role they can play in the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan, which continues to recover from decades of conflict.
