Namibe: At least 229 inmates, out of 452 enrolled in the 2024/2025 academic year, completed their academic and technical-vocational training at the two prisons in Namibe, namely Bentiaba Prison Center, also known as So Nicolau Prison, and So Paulo Jail.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the training program was led by 24 trainers from various fields, including 15 from the Provincial Directorate of Education, seven prisoners who are teachers, and two from the National Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (INEFOP). The courses offered covered a range of subjects such as physical and biological sciences, economics and law, automobile mechanics, electricity, metallurgy, and carpentry.
Deputy Commissioner Gabriel Barros, the director of the Bentiaba prison, highlighted the prison system's commitment to training, humanization, rehabilitation, and social reintegration of inmates. He emphasized the importance of these programs in preparing inmates for life beyond incarceration.
Agostinho Sebastio Neto, the director of the Namibe Provincial Education Office, encouraged the trainees to apply their newly acquired knowledge for the development of the country, acknowledging their eagerness to learn and benefit from the training.
