Over 157 Million Trees Planted in Ethiopia’s Single-Day Green Legacy Campaign

ADDIS ABABA – The Government Communication Service (GCS) has announced that over 157 million tree seedlings have been planted today as part of Ethiopia’s ambitious Green Legacy campaign, which aims to plant 600 million trees in a single day. This initiative is part of a broader effort to combat deforestation and climate change in the East African nation.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, State Minister of the GCS, approximately 7.5 million people participated in the overnight planting effort. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, commenting on the social media platform X, stated that with today’s event, Ethiopia will have planted around 40 billion seedlings since the Green Legacy program’s inception in 2019. The initiative is a significant national effort to restore environmental stability and enhance the ecological framework of the country.
