Over 100,000 Students Benefit from PAT II Scholarships in Angola

Luanda: Over 100,000 Angolan students have benefited from scholarships under the Girl Empowerment and Learning for All Project (PAT II). One hundred and 31,46 students from the provinces of Luanda, Bengo, Malanje, Lunda Norte, Cuanza Sul, Cuanza Norte, Cunene, Hula, and Icolo and Bengo have received support that has contributed to reducing school drop-out rates and enhancing learning outcomes.

According to Angola Press News Agency, a press release issued at the end of the first meeting of the Multisectoral Commission for the Implementation of PAT II indicated that the initiative, led by Vice-President Esperan§a da Costa, has resulted in the training of 131 provincial teachers and 21,237 municipal teachers. Additionally, 3,022 school directors and sub-directors have been trained in a pedagogical supervision model.

The press release further outlines plans for the 2025/2026 school year, which include logistical preparations for the training of 27,000 teachers and 4,000 school principals. It also notes the training of over 55,000 students, aged 10 to 18, with improved access to sexual and reproductive health information and services, and the registration of 227,069 students in school clubs, including 118,109 girls.

The document highlights that school clubs have positively influenced perceptions of gender equality and abuse prevention. These clubs have fostered cultural change by challenging harmful social norms and promoting mutual protection attitudes.

PAT II represents a partnership between the Angolan government and the World Bank, with funds allocated based on a World Bank-approved budget to support planned project activities.
