Over 1,000 Trees Planted to Reforest Siniena Grove in Banfora

BANFORA — The Departmental Environment Service of Banfora, under the patronage of Regional Director Hassim Rabo, led a reforestation initiative on Friday, August 9, 2024, aimed at strengthening the plant cover of the Siniena grove. The grove, located 10 kilometers from the commune of Banfora, received 1,075 new plants as part of this effort.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Director of the Banfora Departmental Environment Service, the reforestation project involved the planting of 1,000 Acacia nilotica, 25 Baobabs, 25 Ceiba pentandra, and 25 Pterocarpus trees. The primary goals of the initiative are to combat deforestation and to transform the grove into a reference botanical garden by introducing endangered and medicinal tree species.

Nabié highlighted the ongoing challenges in maintaining and protecting the Siniena grove, including frequent bush fires, a lack of financial resources, and insufficient equipment. Despite these obstacles, the reforestation effort represents a significant step towards preserving the local environment.

Regional Director Hassim Rabo, who supported the initiative, commended the departmental service for its dedication to environmental preservation. He urged environmental service agents at all levels—regional, provincial, and departmental—to remain committed to the fight against deforestation and to continue efforts to reforest and green the environment.

Rabo also called on the residents of Siniena to actively participate in the upkeep and protection of the newly planted grove, emphasizing the importance of local involvement in sustaining environmental initiatives. He encouraged everyone to adopt an eco-citizen and patriotic spirit to contribute to making Burkina Faso a greener and more beautiful country.
