Luanda: At least 1.7 million families are enrolled in the second phase of the Kwenda financial assistance program, which was recently launched nationwide. Seventy percent of these families have already received financial support, as announced by President Joo Louren§o in his State of the Nation Address.
According to Angola Press News Agency, President Louren§o highlighted that 54,129 families are actively participating in productive inclusion initiatives. He emphasized the transformative impact of Kwenda on communities, showing significant investment in social protection and progress toward social justice and inclusion.
The program has reportedly improved the income and quality of life for many families, increasing autonomy in producing agricultural products and animal protein, both for consumption and market distribution. President Louren§o underscored the pivotal role of the family unit, noting it as a top government priority.
“We continue working towards an increasingly equal society, where men and women build the country side by side, on an equal footing, a country where women’s rights and freedoms are protected,” President Louren§o stated. He also mentioned the continuation of initiatives like the National Women of Merit Award to inspire and empower women in Angola.
On the issue of domestic violence, the president assured that the State is committed to intensifying its efforts against this issue, ensuring that every home in Angola serves as a haven of peace and development. He stressed that homes should be environments where children are nurtured and educated for future challenges, forming the bedrock of a resilient society.
The president also highlighted the essential role of social assistance in supporting war victims, particularly orphaned children and those injured during the conflict, providing them with hope and the will to live. He noted that following the end of the war, the State prioritized social assistance for children and people with disabilities, resettlement of displaced individuals, and the repatriation of war refugees.
