Oumarou Sawadogo Sole Candidate for FBF Presidency After Pitroipa’s Disqualification

OUAGADOUGOU - Colonel-Major Oumarou Sawadogo is now the only candidate in the race for the presidency of the Burkinabè Football Federation (FBF), following the disqualification of Jonathan Pitroipa's candidacy and the rejection of Ali Guissou's appeal.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Colonel-Major Sawadogo's candidacy was upheld after the commission dismissed multiple appeals on July 31. These included an appeal by Ali Guissou's legal team, which sought to overturn the invalidation of their client’s candidacy, as well as an appeal against the candidacies of Sawadogo and former international footballer Jonathan Pitroipa. The commission also found the arguments against Pitroipa's candidacy compelling enough to dismiss it, due to a team member's withdrawal.

The commission cited procedural errors, including the non-payment of required fees by Guissou's counsel and prior legal issues involving members of his team, which influenced its decision. These factors, combined with the earlier decision by the Electoral Commission, which found issues in Guissou's application due to a lack of transparency in the FIFA integrity form and past convictions of team members, led to the dismissal of his candidacy.

As it stands, Sawadogo will proceed unopposed in the election scheduled for August 31, following the conclusive decisions by both the Electoral and Appeals Commissions.
