Oudalan: The health district is intensifying measles awareness campaigns in Gorom-Gorom The Gorom-Gorom health district organized, for the second time, a large-scale awareness campaign on the prevention of measles, meningitis and heat waves, in sector no. 1 of the city of Gorom-Gorom, in the province of Oudalan.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this awareness-raising outing mobilized several local actors, including health workers, association leaders and community relays. The objective was to increase public awareness of seasonal illnesses and health risks that particularly threaten children. The teams toured the concessions and spoke directly with residents to spread prevention messages and encourage the adoption of health-promoting behaviors.
During this activity, health workers stressed the importance of vaccinating children against measles, considered one of the most effective means of protection. They also urged parents to seek prompt medical attention if they experience symptoms such as high fever or the appearance of skin rashes, which may indicate an infection. The awareness teams also reminded people of the essential hygiene measures to limit the spread of diseases. These measures include regular handwashing, avoiding the sharing of personal items, and covering the mouth when coughing.
According to health officials, these simple actions significantly reduce the risk of infection within families and communities. In addition to infectious diseases, awareness campaigns also focused on the risks associated with extreme heat. People were encouraged to adopt local protective practices such as wearing turbans and face masks, and using shea butter to protect their skin and mitigate the effects of the heat.
According to the chief medical officer of the health district, Dr. Fabrice Flavien Traore, community vigilance remains an essential pillar to effectively protect children and prevent the emergence of new cases. He urged the population to maintain mobilization, respect preventive measures and regularly visit health facilities to protect the lives of children and the entire community.
