Oudalan Health District Achieves 88.10% of Planned Activities in 2025

Oudalan: The Gorom-Gorom health district has executed 88.10% of the activities planned for 2025, according to the conclusions of the first ordinary session of its health council held on Wednesday, April 16, 2026, under the chairmanship of the High Commissioner of the province of Oudalan, Valentin Mare.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the District Medical Officer (DMO), Dr. Flavien Fabrice Traore, reported that 37 activities were carried out out of 42 programmed, despite several constraints, including the underestimation of targets and the inaccessibility of certain areas. He specified that these results reflect the efforts made by all actors in the health system in a context marked by security and logistical challenges.

Dr. Traore indicated that the main actions carried out concerned the distribution of long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) to 116,650 people, the fight against schistosomiasis, seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC), the response against poliomyelitis as well as the vitamin A+ administration campaign. According to him, the 2025 health offensive also made it possible to increase community awareness activities, destroy larval breeding sites and strengthen the referral of patients.

In terms of infrastructure, the MCD announced that the district has completed the construction of the fence around its headquarters, as well as the construction and rehabilitation of a morgue. He stressed that these investments contribute to improving working conditions for staff and the quality of services offered to the public.

For the year 2026, the Gorom-Gorom health district has identified four priorities: intensifying community awareness, improving case management (PAPA), strengthening routine vaccination, and increasing larval control through the destruction of breeding sites, indoor residual spraying (IRS), and spatial spraying.

The session, which brought together the district management team, COGES officials, administrative and municipal authorities as well as private sector actors, concluded with recommendations aimed at further improving the performance of the health system for the benefit of the populations of the Gorom-Gorom health district.
