Mouhoun: The village of Lah in the commune of Kona witnessed the thrilling conclusion of the 2nd edition of the Maracana Resilience Tournament, where the Ouarkoye team emerged triumphant over Kouana, securing the trophy with a 2-0 win. The event, held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, was organized by the association “Le Mouhoun en marche” in collaboration with the “On ne craque point” brand and was attended by the High Commissioner of the Mouhoun province, Souleymane Nakanabo.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the tournament, which commenced on April 5, 2025, in Lah, brought together 20 teams from the seven communes of Mouhoun province. The event aimed to foster social cohesion and communal resilience under the theme “From the field to the community: together for collective resilience”. The final match was a testament to the spirit of sportsmanship and community building, with Ouarkoye ultimately clinching the victory.
The victorious Ouarkoye team was awarded jerseys, medals, balls, and a financial envelope, while the runners-up, Kouana, received jerseys, balls, and a financial envelope. All participating teams were given incentive prizes to commend their efforts. David Dao, the promoter of “On ne craque point” and president of the organizing committee, emphasized the tournament’s goal of promoting communal living, resilience, and social cohesion through sports.
Dao encouraged strengthening ties between authorities and the community, urging the youth to contribute to the dynamic changes desired by the country’s leadership. High Commissioner Souleymane Nakanabo expressed his appreciation for Dao’s leadership and called on the community to embrace unity, forgiveness, and solidarity. He also paid tribute to the Defense and Security Forces and community volunteers for their dedication to the nation.
Amidou Zan, representing the event sponsor, praised the organizing committee and pledged support for community initiatives that bolster social cohesion, a crucial need for Burkina Faso during these challenging times.
