Ouargaye—On Friday, October 27, 2023, students from various post-primary and secondary schools in Ouargaye organized a march to urge the return of authorities and teachers for the recommencement of academic sessions.

According to Burkina Informational Agency, the students gathered initially at the Ouargaye provincial high school before proceeding to march to different key locations within the city, including the Central Police Station, the royal court, and the High Commission. At each stop, the students conveyed their message.

The marchers stated that they support the Transition, the FDS (Defense and Security Forces), and the VDP (Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland) in their efforts to maintain security. Furthermore, they emphasized that they are still awaiting the return of their teachers to begin the new school year.

Chief Warrant Officer Mohamed Sanfo, the deputy commander of the Ouargaye national gendarmerie brigade, received the students at the last rallying point—the gendarmerie. There, a message was read and delivered, marking the conclusion of the event.

It is worth noting that this is not the first such gathering for this cause; on September 16, 2023, the youth had previously called for a mass departure for similar reasons, drawing a significant turnout from the local population of Ouargaye.
