TENKODOGO — The Ouargaye health district held its inaugural 2024 session of the provincial epidemic management committee this Monday, chaired by Ousmane Ouattara, the High Commissioner of Koulpélogo province. The session gathered various stakeholders to discuss epidemiological surveillance and strategies to combat epidemics.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting focused on the surveillance of diseases such as measles, dengue fever, and acute flaccid paralysis, among others. The session emphasized the importance of event-based monitoring, urging all actors to adopt this approach to improve health outcomes. The indicators from the expanded vaccination program were reviewed, showing satisfactory results, with room for improvement.
Morou Nikiema, the head doctor of the Ouargaye district, expressed gratitude to all partners, highlighting the contribution of the Momentum Integrated Health Resilience (MIHR) project. This initiative has been instrumental in the task delegation within the vaccination program, enabling the vaccination of numerous children across various localities.
Officials provided an update on the ongoing major catch-up vaccination campaign, which has shown promising results after its initial three days. The committee commended the dedication of on-ground personnel and encouraged continued enthusiasm for the campaign’s success.
Recommendations from the session included the development of an epidemic preparedness and response plan and the organization of public awareness activities. These activities are aimed at promoting adherence to vaccination schedules, enhancing event-based surveillance, educating about diseases with epidemic potential, and improving vector control.
