Ouagadougou to Inaugurate Mining Residue Processing Plant

OUAGADOUGOU – The President of the Transition and Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traore, is set to inaugurate the new mining residue processing plant in the Kossodo industrial zone, Ouagadougou, on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. This facility marks a significant step in Burkina Faso’s strategic endeavor to enhance the utilization and processing of mining residues.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the commissioning of this plant is a response to the Transitional Government’s strategy to augment the capture and processing of mining resources and their by-products. The burgeoning extractive industry in Burkina Faso produces a substantial quantity of residues, such as fine coal, slag, ash, and acidic concentrate, which had not been effectively integrated into the value chain until now.

The establishment of the mining residue processing plant aligns with the President of the Transition’s vision to foster Burkina Faso’s economic sovereignty through indigenous solutions. It aims to address the gap in residue treatment and contribute to increasing the added value of mining operations within the country. This initiative represents a move towards self-reliance and enhanced resource management in Burkina Faso’s mining sector.
