Ouagadougou to Immortalize Notable Burkinabè on Kwamé Nkrumah Avenue with “Rue des Étoiles” Project

OUAGADOUGOU – The Academie des Sotigui has initiated the “Rue des Étoiles” project, which will feature stelae on Avenue Kwamé Nkrumah to honor notable Burkinabè citizens. These individuals have made significant contributions in various fields, often without public recognition. The initiative was announced on Monday by Kevin Moné, president of the Academie des Sotigui, who called for support from partners and the community.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the project was conceived as a tribute to the many uncelebrated heroes of Burkina Faso. The effort seeks to rejuvenate Avenue Kwamé Nkrumah, which has suffered from the impact of terrorist attacks, by celebrating the achievements of its citizens. The avenue will be transformed into a landmark destination, enhancing its historical and tourist appeal.

The selection of individuals to be honored involves a scientific committee overseen by the Ministry of Communication, Culture, Arts, and Tourism. For its inaugural edition in 2024, the committee has chosen 140 personalities based on their skills, creativity, or significant contributions to the country and beyond.

Stakeholders in the project include several government ministries and the special delegation of the commune of Ouagadougou. While the project enjoys strong institutional support, it still seeks financial partners to ensure its realization. The initiative represents a significant cultural undertaking intended to foster national pride and collective memory.
