Ouagadougou MPs Probe into Air Burkina’s Future

OUAGADOUGOU – In a session held on Monday in Ouagadougou, members of the Sustainable Development Commission (CDD) engaged with the Minister of Transport, Urban Mobility and Road Safety, Roland Somda, to discuss the challenges and future prospects of the national airline, Air Burkina.

According to Burkina Information Agency, president of the parliamentary committee on sustainable development, the hearing was a platform for the deputies of the Transitional Legislative Assembly to delve into the operational difficulties of Air Burkina. The session aimed to understand the factors affecting the airline’s performance, the implications of its current state, and the potential for revitalization. The discussion also included an overview of the recovery plan developed by the Ministry of Transport, intended to rejuvenate the struggling airline.

Air Burkina, like many national airlines in West Africa, has faced ongoing challenges for decades. The hearing follows a notable incident in April 2022, when Aviation Colonel Blaise Sanou was abruptly removed from his position as general director of Air Burkina. This decision came in the wake of a timely detected fire in one of the company’s aircraft reactors, highlighting the critical operational issues facing the airline.
