Ouagadougou Hosts Second Edition of Pharma Expo BF to Advance Pharmaceutical Industry

Ouagadougou – On Friday, May 31, 2024, Ouagadougou launched the second edition of the Pharmacy and Parapharmacy Exhibition (Pharma Expo BF), a gathering of industry professionals and students aimed at rejuvenating Burkina Faso’s pharmaceutical sector.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the three-day event, which opened its doors in the capital city, has attracted about 1,300 visitors and 100 exhibitors. The exhibition includes a variety of activities, such as B2B meetings, displays, and a gala evening, all focused on discussing the present and future challenges and opportunities within the pharmaceutical industry. The event is sponsored by the President of the Transitional Legislative Assembly, Dr. Ousmane Bougouma, and centers around the theme ‘Pharmacy in the digital age’.



Dr. Bougouma highlighted the expo as an essential platform for utilizing digital technology to foster research and the development of health products. He emphasized the importance of local production development to ensure access to quality pharmaceuticals on both national and international markets.



The representative for the Minister in charge of Health, Nandy Somé/Diallo, noted that Pharma Expo BF serves as a unique forum where industry stakeholders can come together to shape the sector’s future. He pointed out that the rapidly evolving scientific and technological landscape necessitates that pharmaceutical professionals transform their operational approaches to provide superior health care.



Nédié Naon, president of the ceremony and the National Order of Pharmacists of Burkina Faso, expressed his gratitude towards the contributors to the expo’s success. He remarked on the digital revolution’s impact on pharmacy through enhanced research capabilities, distribution networks, and patient data management.



Professor Rasmané Semdé, president of the BF 2024 Pharmacy Organizing Committee, reflected on the resilience of the Burkinabe people and the pharmaceutical sector, acknowledging the support of the government and the commitment of the armed forces engaged in national defense efforts. The expo, which sees participation from countries including Mali, Niger, Benin, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Russia, India, and China, honors Algeria as the guest country of honor at this year’s event.
