Ouagadougou Gendarmerie Seizes Cyanide and Prohibited Cigarettes

Ouagadougou: The National Gendarmerie Research Brigade seized a large quantity of cyanide and prohibited cigarettes in the city of Ouagadougou in March, estimated at a value of five million FCFA. According to Burkina Information Agency, the operation took place on March 11, 2025, following a tip-off from citizens. The investigation led to the confiscation of cyanide and GOLD SEAL brand cigarettes. These products pose potential health and environmental risks and were intended for distribution across various regions of the country. The individual in possession of these items was apprehended and presented to the Public Prosecutor at the High Court of Ouaga I for further proceedings. The National Gendarmerie has called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement. Emergency numbers for reporting include 1010 for the National Monitoring and Alert Center, 16 for the National Gendarmerie, and 17 for the National Police. The authorities emphasize the importance of collec tive efforts in maintaining security in Burkina Faso.
