Ouagadougou — Burkinabè citizens living abroad now have the ability to apply for and receive their nationality certificates online, a move announced by Dr. Ousmane Bougouma, President of the Transitional Legislative Assembly. This new service aims to streamline the process for the diaspora, allowing them to manage their applications from anywhere in the world.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this initiative was launched to simplify the acquisition of nationality certificates, which previously required applicants to travel significant distances and incur substantial expenses. The service was officially introduced on June 7, 2024, in Ouagadougou. The digital process is not only expected to save time and money but also improve the security and traceability of the issued documents, thereby reducing the risk of falsification.
This development is part of a broader government effort to digitize various administrative documents, including pay slips for public sector employees, tax stamps, and criminal records, which began in 2023. The digital transition and justice ministries collaborated on this project, ensuring that security measures are integral to the process to protect users and maintain document integrity.
