Grootfontein: The 2025 Otjozondjupa career fair series was officially launched by Governor John ||Khamuseb at Grootfontein Senior Secondary School (SSS) on Tuesday. Addressing learners from Grootfontein SSS, Coblenz Combined School, and Khorab SSS in Otavi, ||Khamuseb emphasised the Namibian government’s commitment to their education and urged them to make well-informed career choices.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Governor ||Khamuseb highlighted the importance of choosing careers that contribute to the development of Namibia. He encouraged learners to consider specialising in engineering fields such as civil, mining, and chemical engineering due to the region’s demand for such expertise. He also advised them to explore vocational training opportunities to meet the country’s need for technically skilled personnel.
The Governor motivated the learners by sharing success stories of prominent figures who emerged from similar backgrounds, encouraging them to aspire to fulfilling careers such as piloting a B
oeing 747. Education deputy director Chris Tjivikua further inspired Grade 11 and Grade 12 students to work diligently to become productive citizens. He urged them to utilise the fair as a platform to establish connections with industries for further education, scholarships, and employment opportunities.
The career fair features participation from several government ministries and institutions, including the Electoral Commission of Namibia, the Ministry of Labour, the Namibian Police Force, Namibia College of Open Learning, and the Namibia University of Science and Technology. Additionally, the Namibia Student Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF) and Petrofund are present to offer guidance and support.
The event, organised by the Otjozondjupa education directorate, spans five days, having commenced in Tsumkwe on Monday, followed by events in Grootfontein, Otjiwarongo, and Okakarara, and will conclude in Okahandja on Friday.
