Otjiwarongo, Otjozondjupa Region — The Ombili informal settlement witnessed the inauguration of its new healthcare facility, the Ombili Clinic, on Wednesday, amid community celebrations. Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Kalumbi Shangula, officiated the opening, which was attended by regional leaders, Otjikoto B2Gold Mine representatives, and health officials.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Dr. Shangula highlighted the multifunctional role of the Ombili Clinic. It will operate as an immunisation center, provide antenatal and postnatal care, offer general screening, serve as an HIV and tuberculosis service hub, address dental issues, support family planning, and manage both communicable and non-communicable diseases. "This clinic not only alleviates the burden of walking long distances to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital or Orwetoveni clinic for community members, it will also enhance the quality of healthcare for nearly 20,000 inhabitants of Ombili and its nearby informal areas," he stated.

The construction of the clinic was funded by Otjikoto B2Gold Mine through a N$6 million investment from its corporate social responsibility program. John Roos, the Namibia Country Director for B2Gold Mine, expressed satisfaction with the project's timely completion, which had its groundbreaking in April 2024. The Ombili Clinic has upgraded from a health post, a status it held since 2007, to a fully equipped clinical facility.

Local officials, including Otjiwarongo Constituency councillor Marlayn Mbakera and Mayor Gottlieb Shivute, acknowledged the significant contribution of B2Gold Mine. Councillor Mbakera thanked the mine's management for their support, emphasizing the clinic's crucial role in the burgeoning Ombili settlement. The event also saw the participation of other local authority councillors, underscoring the collective effort behind the project.
