Otjiungukua Triumphs in Omongua Football and Netball Tournament


Opuwo – The Otjiungukua teams clinched victory in both netball and football at the annual Omongua football and netball tournament, which concluded on Monday. The event, held at Omongua in the Omaheke area, commenced on Saturday and spanned three days.



According to Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA), In the football segment, Otjiungukua FC emerged victorious after a series of competitive matches. They first secured a win against Gauteng FC with a 3-2 scoreline in the semi-finals and then clinched the championship by defeating Orevia FC 1-0 in the final. Orevia FC had advanced to the final after overcoming Big Five FC in the semi-finals, winning 4-3 on penalties following a goalless draw in regular time.



Similarly, the Otjiungukua netball team demonstrated their prowess by defeating the Otjovakombe netball team with a score of 27-17 in the final game. Prior to this, they had won against the Kajalami netball team with the same score in the semi-finals. The Otjovakombe team, before their loss in the final, had secured a victory against the Ombero netball team with a 27-12 score.



According to Mabeth Kazeurua, the event organiser, the tournament was a resounding success, despite the absence of about six teams that had initially registered but could not participate due to job commitments. Speaking to Nampa on Tuesday, Kazeurua highlighted that the competition played a crucial role in selecting the constituency’s all-star squad for the Namibia Rural Sports Development Federation events in 2024.



In terms of prizes, Otjiungukua Football Club was awarded N.dollars 9,000, a trophy, and gold medals. Orevia FC received N.dollars 6,000 and silver medals, while both Big Five FC and Gauteng FC were given N.dollars 3,000 each. The four quarter-finalists each received N.dollars 500.



For netball, the champions, Otjiungukua, received N.dollars 4,000, a trophy, and gold medals. The runners-up, Otjovakombe, were awarded N.dollars 2,000 and silver medals, and the Ombero and Kajalami netball teams each received N.dollars 1,000.
