Oshikoto Polio Vaccine Campaign Kicks Off

Oshikoto: The Oshikoto Regional Health Directorate officially launched its round one polio vaccination campaign at Omuthiya Clinic on Monday. The campaign is aimed at vaccinating 68,235 children under the age of 10 against poliomyelitis (polio).

According to Namibia Press Agency, the first round of the campaigns will run from Monday to Thursday, with the second round scheduled to commence on 24 February. Oshikoto Governor Sacky Kathindi, while administering the first polio vaccine drop, emphasized that the campaign is part of Namibia's commitment to preventing the spread of poliovirus type 2 and ensuring that no child is left vulnerable to preventable diseases.

Kathindi highlighted that achieving a polio-free Namibia is both a national goal and a shared responsibility that requires unity, cooperation, and decisive action. He encouraged parents to ensure that all eligible children are vaccinated, stating that the vaccination is safe, effective, and free of charge. By participating in the campaign, parents protect not only their families but also contribute to the health and resilience of the community, the Oshikoto Region, and Namibia as a whole.

Oshikoto Health Director Joshua Nghipangelwa noted that teams are prepared to be deployed to all health facilities and outreach points to ensure that every child receives the polio vaccine.
