Oshikoto Governor Launches PstBet Sports Cup Aimed at Youth Development

OMUTHIYA—Oshikoto Governor Penda ya Ndakolo officially inaugurated the PstBet Oshikoto Region Governor’s Cup in Omuthiya this Friday. The sporting event is set to kick off on Saturday and will conclude on Sunday at the Omuthiya stadium.

According to News Releases by Namibia Press Agency, Ya Ndakolo expressed that the Governor’s Cup aims to assemble young participants from all 11 constituencies of the region to compete in football, netball, volleyball, and athletics. He emphasized that sports serve as a vital tool for development and peace, unifying the youth and providing a platform for talent identification. Ya Ndakolo also noted that the event could help young people avoid the temptations of drugs and crime commonly encountered in their daily lives.

Despite Oshikoto being a rural area with limited sports infrastructure, Ya Ndakolo stated that the region has produced notable sports figures like Frank Kayere and Helalia Johannes. He urged regional leaders to consider ways to expand the tournament and include other sports, in the hopes of cultivating the next generation of athletic talent.

Abner Neputa, a spokesperson for PstBet’s marketing team, announced at the same event that PstBet is committed to social responsibility and will provide N.dollars 210,000 over the next three years to support the tournament aimed at youth development. Neputa added that the event not only has the potential to offer economic opportunities and job creation but can also serve as a platform for local entrepreneurs to generate income by selling their products.
