Oshikoto: The Regional Councils and Local Authorities elections in the Oshikoto Region continued to run smoothly with minimal disruptions by midday on Wednesday. Speaking at Ontananga Combined School in the Olukonda Constituency, the Namibian Police Force's Oshikoto Regional Commander, Commissioner Ndafudha Iifo, stated that police teams visiting various polling stations had not recorded any irregularities or problems. "So far, the reports we have received from members on the ground indicate that they have not encountered any incidents, everything is going smoothly," she said.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Iifo issued a stern warning to residents, urging them not to carry dangerous weapons or wear political party attire to polling stations in order to prevent possible conflicts. The presiding officer at Heroes Private School in the Oniipa Constituency, Fenni Hainghumbi, told Nampa that voting had proceeded without setbacks since morning, with more than 50 people having cast their votes. "I am urging those still at home to come out and exercise their democratic right," she said.
At Silas Bokoma Combined School in the Omuthiya Constituency, presiding officer Matheus Itula reported a minor hiccup in the early hours. "This morning we experienced a brief issue with the fingerprint scanner. Only 10 voters were affected. We quickly rectified the problem and called them back to re-register their fingerprints successfully," Itula explained. Overall, the electoral process in the Oshikoto Region remained calm and orderly, with authorities encouraging all eligible voters to participate before polling stations close.
