Oshikoto Career Fair Equips Learners for Future Opportunities

Oshikoto: The Oshikoto Directorate of Education is hosting its annual Career Fair Roadshow aimed at equipping learners with vital information on career pathways, subject selection, higher education opportunities, and entrepreneurship. The career fair, held under the theme 'One Spirit, One Team, One Win, One Oshikoto', is currently taking place at the Omuthiya Multi-Purpose Youth Centre and forms part of a circuit-based roadshow that will reach all eight education circuits in the region. The career fair started on Monday at Oshivelo circuit and will run until 01 July 2026.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Oshikoto Regional School Counsellor, Hilma Iiyambo, mentioned that the initiative seeks to expose learners to a wide range of educational institutions and career options, while providing a platform for networking and career guidance. "It is an annual event that we host for Grade 8 and Grade 12 learners. The purpose is to ensure that learners are equipped with information on career and subject choices," she said.

Iiyambo stated that 13 exhibitors from various institutions and companies are participating in the roadshow, providing learners with information on academic programmes, admission requirements, and employment opportunities. She noted that the career fair will run for eight days across the region's eight circuits, with various schools participating and each school represented by 20 learners.

Speaking at the official opening of the roadshow at J.P. Ratladge Stadium in the Oshivelo Circuit on Monday, Oshikoto Director of Education Hilma Nuunyango-George said the region's vast geographical size made it necessary to host circuit-based career fairs instead of a single regional event. "We are starting here in the Oshivelo Circuit, and the roadshow will continue to the other circuits this week and next week," she said.

Nuunyango-George encouraged learners to use the opportunity to explore various career paths and gain a better understanding of the educational requirements needed to pursue their chosen professions. She also expressed appreciation to the participating exhibitors, saying their contribution was crucial in helping learners make informed decisions about their futures. The education director further urged teachers to continue providing career guidance throughout the year and to ensure timely syllabus coverage to enable learners to achieve the results required for admission to institutions of higher learning.
