Oshana Region Kicks Off Oral Health Week to Boost Community Awareness

OSHAKATI — The Oshana Region has initiated its Oral Health Week campaign this Monday, with a series of events planned through Friday to elevate community awareness about dental hygiene.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Dr. Johanna Pohamba from Oshakati Intermediate Hospital shared that the campaign includes free dental screenings and educational outreach programs designed to enlighten residents about the importance of oral health. She stressed that maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial as many systemic diseases can originate from the mouth.

The campaign has already engaged around 200 individuals, including both inpatients and outpatients, at Oshakati hospital and nearby clinics. Activities also involve distributing dental care essentials like toothbrushes and toothpaste. Dr. Pohamba detailed the campaign’s schedule, noting that the team will visit the Ondangwa Town Council on Thursday, and wrap up the week with visits to Eluwa Special School and Omege School on Friday.
