Ondangwa: Ondangwa Urban Constituency councillor Leonard Negonga said despite the challenges experienced during the past five years, the constituency has made significant and measurable progress, including the expansion of water infrastructure to all centres and villages. Speaking at the Government Information Centre (GIC) on Thursday at the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) Oshana regional office, Negonga said other developments achieved in the constituency include the construction of three schools, namely the Ondiiyala and Onguta primary schools, as well as the Andimba Toivo ya Toivo secondary school. He added that toilets were also constructed, particularly in the rural areas with 50 toilets provided to the communities.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Uukwiyu Uushona constituency councillor, Andreas Amundjindi also highlighted some of the successful developmental projects in his constituency, which included the upgrade of the 13-kilometre Oluna/Omukandu road from gravel to a low-volume bitumen standard road. Phase two of the road project will cover three kilometres to Uukwiyuwuushona, he said. Amundjindi further said the constituency prioritised water harvesting, with earth dams set up to collect rainwater. 'We excavated the earth dam at Omukandu at N.dollars 1.3 million, and it has harvested a lot of water,' Amundjindi said, noting that the constituency has also embarked on rural electrification, with some projects still ongoing. Areas which were electrified include Ombili location, Mpumba and Okapalala location, he said, noting that a total amount of N.dollars 224 000 was paid over to the Northern Regional Electricity Distributor (NORED) to electrify Ongolomwena location.
Both constituencies are located in the Oshana Region.
