Oshakati Town Council Announces Dates for 2026 Totem Expo

Oshakati: The Oshakati Town Council has officially announced the 14th edition of the Oshakati Totem Expo, scheduled to take place from 29 May to 06 June 2026 at the Oshakati Independence Stadium.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the council's public relations officer, Martin Kapuka, stated that the expo will serve as a multi-sector trade and cultural exhibition. The event aims to celebrate Namibian heritage while promoting business growth, entrepreneurship, tourism, and community development.

Kapuka highlighted that the primary objective of the Oshakati Totem Expo 2026 is to promote and preserve Namibian cultural heritage. The event also seeks to stimulate local economic activity and provide a platform for SMEs, entrepreneurs, and cultural groups. Additionally, the expo is expected to foster unity, tourism, and socioeconomic development across the region.

This year's theme, 'Celebrating ties through culture,' underscores the role of culture in strengthening unity and identity, as well as encouraging economic participation, Kapuka explained. He emphasized that the expo aims to create a dynamic environment where culture, commerce, and community converge.

Visitors can anticipate a vibrant programme featuring traditional performances, cultural showcases, totem parades, and heritage exhibitions. The event will also include the Miss Totem Expo and Miss Womalenga beauty pageants, Totem Expo idols singing competition, boxing bonanza, Mr. Bodybuilding competition, and various business exhibitions. Traditional food and craft stalls will also be part of the attractions.

Kapuka noted the pivotal role the expo plays in supporting SMEs and local businesses. The event is expected to create temporary and indirect employment opportunities, promote cultural tourism, and strengthen Oshakati's identity as both a cultural and economic hub.
