OSHAKATI: The city of Oshakati is preparing to host the third Oshuungu Annual Football Tournament from December 26 to 28, 2023.

According to Namibia Press Agency (Nampa), tournament coordinator Petrus Hamukwaya confirmed on Wednesday that team registrations for the upcoming event have commenced. The tournament promises a prize pool of N.dollars 20,000, with the champions set to claim N.dollars 10,000, a floating trophy, and gold medals. The second runner-up will be awarded N.dollars 5,500 along with silver medals, and the third-place team will receive N.dollars 3,500 and bronze medals.

Hamukwaya emphasized that the competition is open to all teams and aims to engage the youth in constructive activities that bolster their skills, social wellbeing, and talent, thus fostering their development as active Namibian citizens through sports. The tournament also seeks to inspire community unity and a sense of belonging. Last year’s edition saw Core Vision FC securing the tournament title.
