Oshakati – The northern Namibian town of Oshakati is buzzing with activity as it prepares for the 10th edition of the Elombe Sports Tournament, scheduled for December 28-30, 2023. This year, the village tournament will encompass a variety of sports, including football, volleyball, netball, and chess, and is open to teams from all over Namibia.

According to Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA), a member of the tournament organizing team, speaking to Nampa, the Elombe Sports Tournament is more than just a sports event. It serves as a vital platform for engaging youth in sports, nurturing their talents, and providing them opportunities to display their skills. Ashipala highlighted the tournament’s dual role in both promoting sports and contributing to local economic growth by creating a marketplace for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Elombe. This marketplace allows them to showcase their products and services to a larger audience.

Ashipala also emphasized the tournament’s commitment to community upliftment. The proceeds from the tournament will be donated to a local school, supporting educational initiatives and infrastructure development in the region. He announced that an investment of N.dollar 30,000 has been made to ensure the successful hosting of this year’s event. The three-day tournament is expected to be both exciting and enriching, bringing together athletes, spectators, and local businesses.

The reigning champions, Blue City FC from Iikokola Village, will be defending their title at the tournament.
