Orlando Triumphs in Inaugural Ouaga Soccer Maraca±a Tournament

Ouagadougou: Orlando clinched the title in the first edition of the "Ouaga Soccer" Maraca±a football tournament on Sunday, narrowly defeating Bombardier FC in a penalty shootout with a score of 2-1. The match concluded in a draw at the end of regulation time, necessitating a tense penalty decider.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the tournament, which commenced on August 5, featured 26 teams from the capital. It was held under the theme "Sport in the service of social cohesion." The tournament's promoter, Bassirou Porgo, stated that its main objectives were to offer a constructive outlet for young people and to reinforce communal bonds.

As the tournament champion, Orlando was awarded 325,000 CFA francs along with several other prizes. Bombardier FC, the runner-up, received 150,000 CFA francs, while the team in third place earned 50,000 CFA francs.

Bassirou Porgo lauded the event's successful execution, which included a solemn moment of silence to honor soldiers who sacrificed their lives for their country. He emphasized that this initiative aligns with the vision of Burkina Faso's President, Captain Ibrahim Traore, to promote the development of sport and football in the nation.
