Opuwo Football Academy Dominates at Otjiwarongo Youth Cup with Triumphs in Two Age Categories

Opuwo Football Academy's Under-13 and Under-15 boys' teams achieved remarkable success at the recent Otjiwarongo Sports Academy Youth Cup, held at Paresis Sports Ground. The academy's teams won gold medals in both their respective age categories, highlighting the young players' growing capabilities and potential in football.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the academy, which surfaced just over a year ago, was led by Marco Torres Ruundu, a former player with extensive experience in the Namibia Premier League. Under his guidance, the boys showed significant improvement and resilience, securing their victories after challenging matches throughout the tournament. Jeura Tjauira, the academy chairperson, expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance and emphasized the importance of participating in more tournaments to build the players' confidence and experience for higher-level competitions.

The journey to the finals was not easy for the boys. The Under-13 team began their successful run by defeating Gobabis Boys 2-0 and securing a 2-1 win over Brothers FC in the semi-finals. The final match against Coca-Cola proved to be the toughest, yet the team managed to clinch a 2-1 victory, marking their first major championship win.

Similarly, the Under-15 team faced a grueling schedule, playing five games over two days. They started strong with a 1-0 win against Scorpion and continued their winning streak with victories over Rush Hour and Gobabis Boys. The semi-final against Cosmos ended in a goalless draw, but Opuwo Academy triumphed in the penalty shootout with a 7-6 score. The team maintained their momentum, defeating De Dunne 3-0 in the final to secure their title.

The tournament featured a total of 57 teams across various age categories, including U-11, U-15, and U-17 boys and girls. While Opuwo Academy celebrated their victories in the U-13 and U-15 boys' categories, Otjiwarongo Sports Academy claimed the girls' U-17 title, and Lindy Cosoms won the boys' U-17 category.
