Optimism for Growth in Kenya’s Tourism Sector in 2024

MOMBASA – The tourism sector in Kenya is expected to witness substantial growth in 2024, according to economic experts. Factors such as increased visibility and investments are seen as key drivers for the expansion of the industry.

According to Kenya News Agency, speaking at the New Year celebrations held at Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort and Spa, General Manager Francis Msengeti reflected on the tourism sector’s recovery in 2023, following the impacts of COVID-19. He noted the significant revival of the industry over the past two years, with a particular emphasis on the growth experienced at Sarova’s market for both domestic and international guests.

Msengeti attributed the thriving market to the increase in flights and cruise ships arriving in Mombasa, which has notably boosted the number of visitors to the coast. This surge, he stated, is a clear indicator of the growing confidence in Kenya’s international market.

In addition to discussing market trends, Msengeti highlighted the sustainability and environmental initiatives undertaken by the hotel. These efforts include installing solar panels on all roofs, engaging in community enhancement projects such as supporting children’s homes, encouraging guest participation in sustainability efforts like mangrove planting, and other initiatives aimed at keeping the hotel innovative and competitive.

Msengeti also emphasized the hotel’s focus on offering unique experiences to their guests. He pointed out the success of various activities set up during the festive season, especially the gaming lounge, which has been particularly well-received by the guests.

Among the guests at Sarova Whitesands, Patrick Muriuki expressed his optimism for a better year and greater economic growth for Kenya. He shared his admiration for the country’s beauty and richness, citing these as reasons for choosing to spend his holidays in Mombasa, known for its humid climate, friendly people, and numerous historical sites.

The arrival of the New Year brought with it a festive atmosphere filled with jubilation, dazzling fireworks, and joyous gatherings, reflecting a widespread optimism for the potential growth and opportunities in the tourism sector in the coming year.
