Operationalization of the High Council of Burkinabe Abroad: The MAECR-BE Engages with New Delegates

Ouagadougou: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabe Abroad organized an online session with the newly elected delegates to the High Council of Burkinabe Abroad (HCBE) this Tuesday, May 27, 2025. This meeting, chaired by HE Karamoko Jean Marie TRAORE, marks the first contact between the new delegates and the official responsible for Burkinabe abroad, aiming to present the vision and expectations of the highest authorities towards these diaspora representatives.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Head of Burkinabe diplomacy congratulated the newly elected officials at the opening of the webinar, wishing them success during their term of office. Minister Karamoko Jean Marie Traore emphasized the importance of their role as representatives of thousands of Burkinabe living abroad and urged them to appreciate the mission entrusted to them. He advised that their mandate be guided by unity, solidarity, and justice, placing collective interest above personal and partisan conside
rations.

The Minister also outlined the expectations of the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, for a structured and united diaspora involved in state rebuilding and sovereignty consolidation. The General Directorate of Burkinabe Abroad further clarified the responsibilities and missions of the HCBE and its functioning to the delegates.

During the exchanges, the new delegates raised concerns regarding documentation, visas, and identity documents. The Minister addressed these concerns, assuring the availability of the Ministry’s technical services for comprehensive responses. He called upon the delegates to work towards restructuring the Burkinabe diaspora.

Approximately 260 participants, including over 170 delegates and heads of Burkinabe diplomatic missions worldwide, attended the webinar. The process of establishing the HCBE, initiated in 2024, has successfully elected more than 173 delegates out of 204 positions, with efforts ongoing to complete the process by July 2025.
