Weekly operations have intensified over weekends with a total of 1083 suspects arrested in the Eastern Cape for the period between 11 and 17 September 2023
The high density operations are continuing to gain steady grounds towards claiming the streets from criminals in the eight (08) districts of the Eastern Cape. A total of nineteen (19) illegal firearms including two rifles were confiscated in separate incidents. Police succeeded in seizing over 161 litres of liquor, and closed four (04) unlicensed liquor outlets for operating without licences. A total of 13 394 disruptive operations among those were the vehicle check points, suspects raids, tracking operations, high visibility patrols, and compliance inspection of liquor outlets and second-hand goods dealers were conducted and saturated all the districts with the following results:

Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene added, “We are beginning to see the intensity and the success of Operation Shanela, especially over weekends. The increased police presence and other social crime awareness activities are contributing to the ongoing generic crime prevention strategies of Operation Shanela. These operations will continue, and residents must expect to see more disruptive operations in our three hotspot districts”.
