Operation Kukula in Sekhukhune District nabbed two for contravention of Immigration Act and employment of undocumented immigrants

The intensive ongoing operation “Kukula” that was conducted at Rakgoadi policing area under Sekhukhune District have resulted to apprehension of two suspects for Contravention of Immigration Act and Employment of undocumented immigrants on Wednesday 19 July 2023.

The operation was conducted by the members of Rakgoadi Crime Prevention Unit through a stop and search, roadblock, illegal immigrants including raiding of liquor outlets respectively.

While busy with the operation, police received information about a tavern that was operating illegally in Mmakgatle village and quickly rushed to the premises. Upon arrival police found a female employee at the tavern and requested legal documentations for operating.

A 27-year-old undocumented person called the owner of the tavern who came but failed to produce the authentic documentations for operating the tavern. Furthermore, police discovered that the female employee was an undocumented immigrant and she was immediately placed under an arrest.

The owner of the tavern, aged 34, was also nabbed for Contravention of Liquor Act and employing an illegal immigrant. During the arrest, police confiscated liquor to the value of R16 000 that was found in the liquor outlet and was officially closed for operating due to non-compliance.

The suspects are expected to appear in Motetema Magistrate court soon.

Police investigations are continuing.
