ONGWEDIVA: The Ongwediva Town Council has dedicated N.dollars 4.1 million to an electrification initiative for the Sky Phase 3 area. The announcement came during the inauguration of the electrical reticulation project, highlighting the council’s ongoing efforts to enhance local infrastructure.
According to Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA), Speaking at the event on Wednesday, Shalyefu underlined the council’s commitment to providing necessary services to residents. The project will see 151 erven in the area gain access to electricity. This development follows the successful inauguration of sewer projects in Sky Phase 1 and Extension 15 in July, which aimed to connect 620 erven to the sewerage system, with 98% of the work already completed. “This is a significant step in our mission to provide proper sanitation in Ongwediva, and we are progressing towards making Sky Phase 3 a fully serviced location,” Shalyefu stated.
Furthermore, the mayor disclosed plans for the 2023/24 financial year, including the construction of stormwater infrastructure in Extension 11 (N.dollar 2.6 million), water and sewer reticulation in Extension 12 (N.dollar 2 million), and bulk water supply and storage facilities in Omatando (N.dollar 7 million). These projects are currently in the procurement phase and will start as soon as funding is secured. Technical adviser David Mulokoshi encouraged community members to apply for electricity connections at the Town Council office, noting that while the council is responsible for infrastructure, Nored handles cable installations in private residences. He concluded by urging residents to protect the new infrastructure against vandalism.
