ONGWEDIVA: Ongwediva Medipark held its 12th annual cancer walk and run campaign focusing on breast, cervical, and prostate cancer. Former First Lady of Namibia, Penehepupifo Pohamba, highlighted the campaign’s impact, noting it has screened over 5,000 individuals since its inception, aligning with Namibia’s Vision 2030 for healthcare access.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Pohamba delivered remarks emphasizing the campaign’s critical role in cancer awareness and care access. She stated that these efforts have significantly impacted many lives, stressing the importance of continued unity to ensure universal access to cancer care. The campaign, themed “Close the Care Gap: Everyone Deserves Access to Cancer Care,” underscores the necessity for regular screenings.
Cancer survivor Lamech Mwanyangapo shared his experience of being diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2023. He recounted being given only seven weeks to live due to the aggressive nature of his cancer. Mwanyangapo credited a comprehensive treatment
plan, including radiation and chemotherapy, for his recovery. He urged the importance of regular cancer status checks, highlighting that cancer can affect anyone.
