Ongwediva Mayor Taarah Shalyefu Re-Elected for Another Term

ONGWEDIVA — Taarah Shalyefu has been re-elected as the mayor of Ongwediva, set to lead the town council for the next 12 months. His re-election, along with the retention of positions by other council members, was announced recently, showcasing the continued leadership stability in the town’s administration.

According to Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA), Ulalia Katonyala, also from the Swapo party, retained her position as deputy mayor. Naemi Amuthenu (Swapo), Jona Helao (IPC), and Fabiam George (Swapo) will continue as members of the management committee. Mathews Tiyaho and Ottillie Haitota, both from IPC, remain as ordinary members of the seven-member Ongwediva Town Council office bearers, with George re-elected as chairperson of the management committee.

In his acceptance speech, Shalyefu reaffirmed his commitment to hard work, innovation, and improved corporate governance, emphasizing the importance of accountability, integrity, and transparency in service delivery. He acknowledged the urgent need to address land distribution issues in Ongwediva and the importance of fast, solution-oriented thinking.

Shalyefu noted the critical role of the council in advocating for development from the government, particularly in the current challenging climate. He expressed confidence that, with the support of fellow councillors, significant progress could be made in leadership and service delivery. He emphasized the council’s responsibility to meet the electorate’s expectations for quality service and responsiveness, committing to deliver to the best of their abilities.
