Ondangwa: The Ondangwa Town Council on Thursday launched a campaign to address the growing concern of illegal waste disposal. The initiative comes amid an increase in illegal dumping across various parts of the town, which poses serious environmental and public health risks while negatively affecting the image and attractiveness of Ondangwa.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the town council's public relations officer, Petrina Shitalangaho, said the rising cases of illegal dumping threaten public health, the environment, and the town's image, prompting urgent intervention. "The increase in indiscriminate dumping across various areas of the town has not only posed serious environmental and public health risks, but has also negatively affected the image and attractiveness of Ondangwa. As a local authority committed to service excellence and sustainable urban management, the council views this matter with utmost seriousness," she said.

Shitalangaho added that the six-month campaign is aimed at promoting responsible waste disposal, tightening enforcement of regulations, and mobilizing residents to play an active role in keeping the town clean. "The campaign seeks to raise awareness about responsible waste disposal, strengthen enforcement of existing waste management regulations, and encourage community participation in maintaining a clean and healthy environment," said Shitalangaho.

Residents and businesses are urged to use designated dumping sites, as the Council will step up monitoring and fine offenders.
