Omuthiya — The citizens of Omuthiya have collectively pledged N$301,250 in support of the upcoming Omuthiya Town Council Business Expo, a significant event aimed at fostering economic growth through sustainable tourism and agriculture, scheduled from October 28 to November 3, 2024, at the newly established market center in Omuthiya.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the financial commitments were disclosed at a fundraising gala held at the local fire station this past Saturday. This initiative marks the second installment of the Omuthiya Expo, following its inaugural event in November 2022. The pledges came from a cross-section of the community, including notable contributions from Rani Group of Companies at N$55,000, Okaale Lifestyle Centre at N$20,000, and Omuthiya’s Mayor, Johannes Ndeutepo, who personally pledged N$5,000.
The Deputy Minister of Industrialisation and Trade, Verna Sinimbo, was present at the gala where she highlighted the importance of the expo’s theme, "Sustainable Tourism and Agriculture: A Tool to Harness Development and Economic Enfranchisement." She emphasized the role of these sectors in building robust economies and providing equitable growth opportunities. Sinimbo encouraged the business community to leverage the expo as a platform to expand their networks and explore new business avenues. Furthermore, she outlined the support mechanisms available through her ministry, including the Equipment Aid Scheme for small and medium-sized enterprises and the Industrial Upgrading and Modernisation Programme aimed at enhancing industrial competitiveness and capacity.
