OMUSATI – In a troubling series of events in the Omusati region, a 40-year-old man was arrested for the attempted rape of his 79-year-old mother in Okomakwiya village, while a separate incident in Tsandi Constituency saw a 26-year-old man arrested for murder.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Omusati Crime Investigation Coordinator, the attempted rape occurred around 18:55 on Friday. The suspect, who is the biological son of the victim, allegedly pushed his mother down, attempted to undress both himself and his mother, and expressed intentions to commit the act, claiming he was compelled by an inner voice. In a separate incident on Saturday around 19:30, at Eengonyo location in Okatsaidhi village, a 26-year-old man allegedly stabbed 25-year-old Saratial Gideon Itango to death following a confrontation in a local shebeen. The suspect reportedly stabbed Itango in the back with an unknown object as he was leaving the venue, resulting in Itango’s immediate death.
Both suspects have been arrested—the first on charges of attempted rape and the second on a murder charge. Police investigations into these matters are ongoing as the community grapples with the severity and nature of these crimes.
