Omusati Councilors Urged to Deliver Measurable Development Outcomes

Omusati: Chairperson of the Omusati regional council management committee, Daniel Iilende, has called on councilors, local authorities, and stakeholders to shift focus from planning to implementation in order to deliver measurable development outcomes in the region. Speaking at the official opening of the Omusati regional council sessions for 2026 on Friday, Iilende said the year marks a new chapter characterized by renewed political leadership, strategic direction, and developmental urgency, anchored in the implementation of Vision 2030, the Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6), and the Swapo Party election manifesto.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Iilende emphasized the importance of these documents, stating that they are not merely policy documents but capture essential tenets of social contracts with the people. They articulate a collective vision, priorities, and commitment to transforming livelihoods, strengthening local economic growth, and delivering inclusive development. He urged a shift from planning to implementation and from intention to measurable impact.

Iilende highlighted the need for collective leadership, urging political leaders and administrators to adopt innovative approaches effectively, implement projects timely, and provide tangible solutions to problems facing the people. He stressed that collective efforts should take precedence over individual focus, emphasizing that effective planning and timely implementation are crucial.

The business community was also addressed, with Iilende noting that they are the backbone of service delivery, socio-economic development, and employment creation in the region. He urged them to uphold accountability and ensure the timely completion of projects, emphasizing the government's commitment to creating a friendly environment for the private sector to thrive.

Iilende concluded by stating that the council should remain committed to development initiatives that address community needs in both urban and rural areas, focusing on infrastructure, basic services, youth empowerment, food security, and economic diversification. He underscored the importance of supporting young people in accessing targeted government programs.
