Namport: Omaheke Football Second Division team, Omaheke Sport Club (SC), clinched the Omaheke Namibia Football Association (NFA) Cup at Legare Stadium on Sunday. The team emerged victorious against Gobabis SC with a 2-0 scoreline in the final, securing their position in the round of 32 of Namibia's cup competition.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Omaheke SC joins Aminuis SC, who also progressed after defeating Ophouende FC in the third division's preliminary stage final. Omaheke SC's path to victory included a dramatic quarter-final win over Otjinene FC, with a 4-3 penalty shootout triumph following a 1-1 draw in regulation time. In the semifinals, they edged past Eastern Chiefs, again with a 4-3 win on penalties after a goalless match. The final saw Omaheke SC decisively defeating Gobabis SC 2-0.
The Omaheke second division champions received a prize of N.dollars 20,000. Gottfried Maritshane, the head coach of Omaheke SC, expressed in an interview with Nampa that the victory was a result of early preparations. He highlighted the team's excitement and confidence for future games, citing the contribution of experienced players like Uariromundu Ruhozu and Apollo Hangero.
Maritshane emphasized the importance of continued training and team spirit for upcoming challenges, stating that the team does not fear any opponent from the premier league or lower divisions. He also acknowledged the support from team management, assistant coaches, and fans.
Vice-captain Ruhozu noted the victory was hard-earned, as all teams in the competition were well-prepared. He stressed the importance of hard work and cooperation, and shared the team's determination to achieve success in the next stage of the competition.
