Omaheke E-ID Campaign Concluded Successfully

Omaheke: The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security's electronic identity (e-ID) awareness campaign for the Omaheke Region concluded on Tuesday, reaching all seven constituencies, with Otjombinde being the last point.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Deputy Executive Director and Chief Registrar in the ministry, Jackson Wandjiva, noted the outreach programme received a positive response from political leaders, traditional authorities, and community members. The campaign aimed to educate residents on the new e-ID system, providing them with essential information about the upgraded national identity card.

Wandjiva highlighted that many residents left the sessions with a better understanding after engaging directly with ministry officials. Participants were informed about the system's benefits, its role in strengthening identity verification, and reducing opportunities for identity fraud.

Throughout the campaign, residents posed questions regarding the security of their personal information, biometric data, and privacy safeguards. Ministry officials addressed these concerns, explaining how the e-ID system is designed to protect personal data.

Community engagement played a significant role in the campaign's success, with political and traditional leaders encouraging residents to attend the sessions. Discussions were facilitated in local languages to ensure comprehensive understanding.

A total of 335 residents attended the awareness sessions across the seven constituencies, with Kalahari recording the highest attendance of 89 participants, while Gobabis had the lowest turnout with 24 participants. The ministry plans to continue its public education campaign on the electronic identity system ahead of its national rollout in September.
