Oshana: Okongo Constituency Councillor Lebbeus Shipindo, who has also been appointed Chairperson of the Ohangwena Regional Council, reports that over 80 per cent of villages in his constituency now have access to water, with each village having at least one borehole.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Shipindo, who retained his position as constituency councillor in the recently concluded 2025 Regional Council and local authority elections, is serving his second term. In an interview, Shipindo shared that he joined the Ohangwena Regional Council in 2020 after resigning from his position as a registered nurse.
The 42-year-old Shipindo previously worked at Olukula Clinic, where he served as the managing nurse for 11 years. Reflecting on his achievements, Shipindo mentioned that when he joined the council, the Okongo Constituency had no running projects. He introduced several initiatives, including a poultry farm in Olukula, which produces eggs for the community. Proceeds from the farm support community members and schools, and the farm employs young people from the area. Additionally, a garden project was established under his leadership.
Among his significant accomplishments, Shipindo noted an agreement with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security to assist community members in obtaining national documents in Okongo. Previously, residents had to travel 100 kilometres to Eenhana for these services. Shipindo also established a partnership with the Angolan Embassy in Namibia to document Angolan nationals in the constituency, a programme that operates every three months.
These services are available not only to residents of his constituency but also to people from other areas. As the new Chairperson of the Regional Council, Shipindo aims to ensure that every constituency implements similar initiatives to make services easily accessible. Furthermore, his office sponsored 10 children from marginalised communities to study aircraft engineering and aviation between 2024 and 2025.
