Okondjatu Set to Host Prestigious FNB July Handicap 2024

OKONDJATU— This Saturday, the Okahatjipara Turf Club will come alive with the FNB July Handicap, one of Namibia’s premier horseracing events. Now in its ninth year, the event, previously known as the Omaheke July Handicap, continues to draw significant interest from racing enthusiasts and the business community alike.

According to Namibia Press Agency, a member of the organizing committee, the Professor Supporters Club has made extensive preparations to ensure the event’s continued prestige and distinctiveness. He highlighted that with 75 horses competing across 17 races, including Nambred and Import races, this edition promises to uphold the high standards set in previous years.

The races will feature top horses from the domestic circuit such as Visigoth, Starlile, and French Leave, competing for a grand prize of N$40,000. The event also draws notable entries from prominent racing stables like Angermund Racing and Balabala Stables, adding to the competitive field.

More than 3,000 attendees are expected, providing ample opportunities for local businesses to engage in trade and marketing activities, thereby boosting the local economy. FNB’s contribution of N$200,000 in prize money underscores the bank’s commitment to the event’s success and its impact on the community.

The gates will open early at 06:00 AM with the main festivities commencing at 10:00 AM, setting the stage for a full day of racing and community engagement.
