Okatumba Agricultural Show Begins in Otjombinde

Otjombinde: The Okatumba Gate Agricultural Show commenced in the Otjombinde Constituency of the Omaheke Region, welcoming farmers nationwide to display their products and vie for accolades until Sunday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, organiser Kamakotje Marenga emphasized that this year's show transcends being a mere marketplace by evolving into a competition to offer better rewards for farmers' efforts. Marenga expressed the desire for farmers to earn reasonable returns from presenting their products, acknowledging the costs involved in maintaining quality standards.

The event, known as one of the largest in the Omaheke Region, includes a special session for sharing information. Farmers have the opportunity to gain knowledge on animal health from MSD Animal Health and learn about feeding practices from Feedmaster's technical advisor, Frank Kanguatjivi. Nampost is also present to educate attendees about new payment methods available for pensioners and vulnerable individuals.

Representatives from the Ministry of Environment's forestry division, along with officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform's Directorate of Veterinary Services and Directorate of Agricultural Production, Extension and Engineering Services, are participating in the event.

By Thursday, approximately 50 cattle and over 100 smallstock were registered for the show, with expectations of more arrivals. The schedule includes farmer gatherings on Friday, while Saturday is designated for the animal competitions. Winners in various categories are set to receive trophies, cash prizes, and additional products from sponsors.
