Lubango: The ministers of the Permanent Okavango River Basin Water Commission (OKACOM) are set to meet on Friday in Lubango, Hula Province. The 8th Dialogue and Cooperation Session will focus on the sustainable management of the region’s water resources.
According to Angola Press News Agency, which ANGOP had access to Thursday, the meeting is strategically important for the sustainable management of water resources in the Cubango-Okavango Basin, a critical area for Angola, Botswana, and Namibia. This one-day meeting will include discussions on a proposal to update the agreement that originally established OKACOM in 1994, aiming for enhanced regional governance and a reinforced commitment to integrated and responsible water management.
The press release highlights that in 2025, OKACOM will mark 30 years of existence, underscoring its role in fostering cross-border cooperation and sustainable water resource management. This anniversary coincides with Angola’s 50 years of independence, emphasizing the importance of regional collaboration for sustainable development and environmental preservation.
