Ohangwena Region Registers Over 100 Rape Cases Linked to GBV in Nine Months

OSHAKATI:From January to September this year, the Ohangwena Region has documented 149 cases of rape and five attempted murder incidents associated with Gender-based Violence (GBV).

Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa, the Namibian Police Force Regional Commander for Ohangwena, revealed these figures in an interview conducted on Wednesday. Kashuupulwa reported that the police successfully apprehended 98 individuals connected to rape allegations and another five related to attempted murder cases.

Significantly, all 35 culprits involved in rape cases coupled with domestic violence have been detained.

Highlighting the region’s proactive measures against rape and GBV, Kashuupulwa expressed the police’s intent to roll out a series of educational campaigns to heighten public awareness on handling such issues. The police also plan to collaborate with educational institutions and traditional leaders while intensifying investigative procedures to nab any remaining suspects.
